An Arizona Health IT Direction and Vision
Arizona’s Health IT Roadmap 2.0 (Roadmap 2.0) provided a direction and vision for Arizona health information technology (HIT) and health information exchange (HIE) advancements for the next three years and beyond. Funded through the Arizona HIE Cooperative Agreement Program, Arizona Health-e Connection (AzHeC) and the Arizona Strategic Enterprise Technology office (ASET) collaboratively led the project, with consulting support and subject matter expertise from Mosaica Partners, LLC. An update to Arizona’s first statewide health IT roadmap (called Arizona Health-e Connection Roadmap) published in 2006, Roadmap 2.0 is focused on achieving the Triple Aim of better care, better outcomes and lower costs through collaborative health IT advancement.
Under the direction of AzHeC and the State of Arizona, Roadmap 2.0 is the result of a collaborative community effort involving hundreds of healthcare individuals and organizations from public and private sectors across the state through interviews, workshops, surveys and public meetings. The project began with meetings and workshops in June 2013 continuing through Fall 2013. The roadmap describes 19 specific, actionable initiatives grouped into five categories or domains. These domains and initiatives are listed on the Roadmap 2.0 Fact Sheet.
Roadmap 2.0 Essential Strategies
Roadmap 2.0 identified three essential strategies that would guide the adoption and advancement of HIT/HIE in Arizona. To be successful, the statewide community must:
- Continue to support providers, across the community, in their adoption and successful use of technology
- Accelerate the secure sharing of health information among healthcare providers
- Continue to provide opportunities where healthcare stakeholders can come together and develop HIT/HIE strategies to meet their evolving business needs
