AHCCCS recently announced an award of $50 billion in Complete Care contracts to seven integrated managed care organizations with the aim of serving 1.5 million Medicaid members over the next seven years in Arizona. These Complete Care Contracts require that organizations integrate physical and behavioral health services within the same network.
This award is an important step in reducing fragmentation for AHCCCS and its beneficiaries, according to Tom Betlach, director of AHCCCS.
“Integration streamlines health care delivery by focusing on the whole person and improving outcomes for the members we serve. With one plan, one provider network and one payer, healthcare providers are better able to coordinate care, and members can more easily navigate the system, both of which ultimately improve health outcomes,” he said.
All but one of the integrated managed care organizations are Health Current Participants, and Health Current, which has integrated physical and behavioral health information in the HIE since 2016, has been a valuable resource for many of these organizations for several years. One organization, Magellan Complete Care, did not provide services under the previous AHCCCS contract and is not currently a Health Current Participant.
The AHCCCS Complete Care Contracts, which will begin on October 1, 2018, were awarded in the following geographic service areas (GSAs): 
Central (Maricopa, Gila and Pinal counties):
• Banner-University Family Care Plan,
• Care1st Health Plan Arizona,
• Health Choice Arizona (Steward Health Choice Arizona),
• Health Net Access,
• Magellan Complete Care of Arizona,
• Mercy Care, and
• UnitedHealthcare Community Plan.
South (Pima, Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, La Paz, Santa Cruz, and Yuma Counties):
• Banner-University Family Care Plan,
• Health Net Access, and
• UnitedHealthcare Community Plan
North (Mohave, Coconino, Apache, Navajo, and Yavapai Counties):
• Care1st Health Plan Arizona, and
• Health Choice Arizona (Steward Health Choice Arizona).
